During the fall, we arranged a number of webinars for trainers who work with the National Equipment Distribution Program for DeafBlind (NEDPDB, also known as iCanConnect). The theme was to show how DeafBlind people can make phone calls through an interpreter via Video Relay Service. During these webinars, trainers get a unique opportunity to ask questions and test the product.
People who are Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of Hearing must be able to make phone calls on the same terms as everyone else. Having access to these basic communication tools, which have a vast impact on a person’s independence, is a fundamental human right. Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) provide these underserved communities with accessible telephone services, allowing them to easily call a doctor, make emergency calls, or order takeout.
The goal of our webinars is to provide information about TRS, and about how our solutions enable people who are DeafBlind to make phone calls via an interpreter. During the fall, we arranged three webinars for trainers from agencies that work at state level with the iCanConnect program. Besides providing information about our solutions, we had an opportunity to discuss with trainers about equipment, cover questions they had from consumers, and hold a Q&A.
Two weeks before the webinar, trainers were given a test license so they could test the app for a month, both before and after the webinar. This was appreciated by all involved, as it provided the opportunity to feel how good a fit the product is for DeafBlind consumers.
